02-07-07 The Clos Vougeot Meetings on "Wine and Ritual" - the 20th to the 22nd of September 2007


  Organised by the UNESCO Chair of Wine and Culture, with the soutien of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Taste-vin,  the Clos Vougeot Meetings on "Wine and Ritual" offers several conferences on two main topics, "Ritual and social interaction" and "Tasting rituals and the lagnuage of wine".


  University researchers from France, Spain, Romania, Brazil, Belgium and the United States will give conferences on themes relating to literature and sociology. In addition, a number of professionals of the world of wine will also be participating, including Dan Boboc, president of the Romanian Wine Tasters Association ("The influence in the wine taste of various microclimate in Romanian vineyards"), Markus Del Monégo, the World's best Sommelier 1998 ("Wine-tasting, from the school of modesty to absolute pleasure"), and Louis-Marc Chevignard, Grand Connétable de la Confrérie des Chevaliers du Taste-vin ("The Confrérie des Chevaliers du Taste-vin: a space for ritual and social interaction").

  The confernce concludes the afternoon of the 22nd of September with a Round Table debate chaired by Serge Wolikow of the University of Burgundy, and with a visit of a local vineyard.

  UNESCO Chair "Wine and Cultre"

  The UNESCO chair "Wine and Culture", lead by the University of Burgundy, is part of a strategy of development and of transfer of knowledge and tradition touching the area of wine and grapegrowing. It draws on an international network of partnerships, in particular establishments for higher education who are able to give momentum to and enrich this project. In addition, this objective of developpment and the transfer of knowledge and tradition conerning wine and grape growing involves a multi-disciplinary action that bears out the double anchoring of the chair within the University of Burgundy in the Institut Universitaire de la Vigne et du Vin and in the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme de Dijon.
